Gocha Hawkins (the owner) serves up yummy, health-conscious goodness at Gocha's Breakfast Bar. The breakfast cafe offers Southern-style pescatarian and vegan-friendly dishes. Got the taste for some shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, or a one-of-a-kind Impossible Burger with parmesan truffle fries? Check out this Black-owned brunch spot!
Popbar is a franchise with locations nationwide. We're not sure if all locations are Black-owned, but husband and wife team Charel and Jamaal Palmer own a Popbar in Alpharetta, GA. And Kia and Clarence Lyons owns the Charlotte, NC location. Popbar isn't a typical brunch spot, but they offer hot Belgium-style waffles and other tasty treats on a stick. Close enough, right? Also, what better way to finish brunch than by eating a delicious dessert? Vegan or not, Popbar has something for you.
Mix jazz, pool, and seafood and what do you get? Catfish Haven! This Black-owned eatery is a soul food sports bar and grill. Among other things, golden catfish and crispy fried shrimp are made to order, so they are hot and fresh! Check out Catfish Haven next time you're in Denver.
When you hear the name of this restaurant, let it remind you of jazz legend B. B. King’s famous electric guitar ballad! Nestled in Houston, Texas, Lucille’s is a locally-owned restaurant in the heart of the city’s Museum District. Co-founded in 2012 by brothers Chris and Ben Williams, the Black-owned restaurant is a tribute to their great-grandmother, Lucille B. Smith. Chris, the executive chef, puts an innovative spin on his great-grandmother’s signature recipes. Check them out next time you're in Houston.
Love chicken? Chicken N Chips is for you. From mouth-watering sides to comfort any savory craving to plump, juicy barn raised chicken, hand seasoned with their signature recipe, any chicken lover will find a dish to suit their fancy at this Black-owned eatery.
Melba’s Restaurant has been regarded as the premier comfort food destination in New York City since opening its doors 15 years ago. Owner Melba Wilson, “born, bred, and buttered” in Harlem, wanted an upscale, yet comforting dining experience in her hometown. This Black-owned restaurant offers brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Get into some of their comforting appetizers, coined “comfortizers,” Melba’s Spring Rolls with rice, black-eyed peas, collard greens, and more.
Tings Jamaican Jerk Chicken

In Chelsea, there’s one place to get Jamaican… Tings! Their authentically made rum banana pudding cake, jerk chicken with rice and peas and curry goat keep locals full and faithful. This Black-owned eatery is open from 12–noon to 6 p.m. daily, order online or call ahead for pick-up.
“Find your roots,” is the tag line of this Black-owned brunch fav. Morgan’s serves goodness all day with an elevated menu of offerings. While the brunch menu holds a list of staples, the main menu gives unique options to tickle the palate. Duck hash, ricotta gnocchi, and a quinoa and kale bowl take dining to another level. Pair these with one of their signature smoothies, such as the Mango Paradise, and that sounds like good eating! Check out either of their locations on NE 29th Street, or NW 26th Street.
Opened by Virginia Ali and her husband, Ben, in 1958, Ben’s has been a staple in the Washington D.C. area. Ben’s is a celebration of D.C.’s African-American history, culture, and character, and U Street’s resilience. Through the years, Ben’s has donated food to notable causes such as the March on Washington and Poor People's Campaign. Grab a signature shake at this Black-owned eatery and decide whether you want chili on your hot dog, hamburger, salad, or fries!
